Prop Shaft Packing-How Often?

I've read the articles on here on the "how". Reason: mine is dripping what I feel to be too much-3 drips per second when boat sits in water cold and off. It slows to 2 drips/second after running. My question: How often does it need replacing? I'm trying to determine if mine needs tightening or replacing. I haven't done anything in the 3-4 years I've had the boat to it but I did see this weekend that I'll not be able to turn it by hand for sure. Thanks to all for the excellent pics on this topic. Also, is the packing Bakes sales as good or better as that shown in the "how to"? I note one is GTU and one is GTO.

Unless you just want the drip less, replace it when it wont adjust any more.
