Thru-hull Options - Which one?

Recommended Posts

What is everyone's experience with adding a thru-hull for venting/draining? I see that Bakes carries 3 different kinds of thru hulls:

"Factory" part - http://www.bakesonli...il.aspx?ID=1106

Low Profile 3/4" - http://www.bakesonli...il.aspx?ID=2494

Low Profile 1" - http://www.bakesonli...il.aspx?ID=2493

I have a 2007 VTX, and am trying to decide which one to go with. The factory thru hull seems like the obvious choice so that it will match my existing thru hulls. Has anyone used the 1" low profile? How does it look? If it's not bad, I might want to go down that route so I can use 1" hose and drain my 750 sac quickly...

Thanks for the comments!

I used the factory, but had to dumb down my 1inch hoses to 3/4 to drain so it pisses about 4-5ft off the sides, don't have perspective on the looks of the 1 inch low pro, but hindsight i would preferred to go with 1inch

I used the 1", and I think it looks fantastic. I just drilled the hole so that the center of all of the thru hulls are on the exact same level. You barely even notice that one is larger than the others.

I wouldn't go with any of them. Instead, I would go with the Wakemakers Stainless Steel thru-hulls:

http://www.wakemaker...-thru-hull.html

- Same look as the factory units

- Available in 3/4", 1", 1 1/8"

- Less expensive than all of the Bakes options

- They also give a discount to Crew Support members, and shipping is usually cheaper (or free)

I have their 3/4" thru hulls for my vents since I do not use the vents for draining (I drain back through the water intake). Going 3/4" venting was a smarter for my setup since it takes up a bit less space for the vent lines and saved probably $20 as well (1" for all my water handling stuff).

Thanks for the feedback, and I appreciate the heads up on the Wakemakers option. I don't see the Wakemakers discount code listed on the discount forum section. Does anyone have a link to where i can find it?

Just e-mail them and they will get it to you. I've used it a couple times now, same discount as Bakes.

Stevo -- when you say your 3/4" fitting pisses out 4-5 feet off the side, it sounds like a lot of pressure is going out, despite having to reduce your hose size from 1". Would you say it sprays out the water further than your factory tanks do?
