Shimming a wedge

Recommended Posts

Big Jay D

I have a fixed wedge. I hardly use the thing but I have left it on so I can play with it a bit.

I was just thinking, has anyone ever tried to shim a manual wedge. Basically changing the angle of the wing? Obviously this is basically the same as an adjustable wedge but fully deployed.

yes, i think it's been tried.

iirc there is a thread that may date back to the original site.

i'm not sure if those threads are in the archives here (i think so but not sure).

maybe one of the mods will chime in here.

The MBO threads are not in our archives. We weren't able to get them. I doubt there were any threads about that though on the old site since the "Floating" Wedge wasn't out at that time IIRC. There have been a few threads over the years though about Mods for the wedge on this current site and they should show up with a search.

Being a fellow foiler, I can see your idea. Just like we shim our rear wing (I use a dime), why not shim the wedge?

No one has actually "shimmed" their wedge foil (to my knowledge and, my knowledge is vast) but, people have drilled secondary holes in the wedge mounting bracket so that the wedge is deployed at a more aggressive angle.
