UFP tongue slack

How much slack do you have in your tongue? I am starting to think mine has to much slack as it goes *thump* on acceleration and *thump* on braking. It is annoying but I have lived with it.

It has done this since I have bought it used several years ago and has not gotten worse. The brakes work fine but are a little grabby when the trailer is empty.

I have nothing to compare it against as I have never towed any other UFP trailer so I would appreciate the input.

Thanks!!!

Ruff,

You should'nt have that much slack for it to thump on take off and stopping.

Start by bleeding the brakes. Make sure you figure out what kind of brake fluid is in there first.

My DHM trailer came with DOT 5 from the factory.

There is also a shock absorber in the coupler that is suppose to prevent this thump. Mine also had some slop and would thump at starts and stops. I replaced the shock when I added the back up solenoid. My coupler has been quiet ever since.

Thanks guys I will start by bleeding the system and if that doesnt do it then I will look for a dampener or shock assembly. Wasn't aware there is one in there.

Agree it shouldn't thump much...that said, I put a new Boatmate tandem trailer under my boat 2 seasons ago and it's a thumper since day one. I've bled the brakes just to be sure, no air was in the system and brakes work great.

I use a Motive power brake bleeder with a custom adapter for the UFP tongue / reservoir that sure makes the bleeding a quick job.
