I have tried to connect ipod/iphone to the usb ports in the boat and none of them will recognize it. Am i doing something wrong or does the unit just not recognize ipods directly?

The USB port will not recognize an ipod. It is used to connect thumbdrives with mp3 music files to the stereo or to transfer mp3 files to the hard drive of the stereo. A 3.5 to 3.5 cord will work to connect the iPod to the aux jack in the glove box via the headphone jack on the iPod.
