Oil on plugs and oil consumption

Recommended Posts

G'day Guys,

My brother and I changed the plugs in our 07 VLX for the first time last weekend.

We noticed that the two plugs at the rear of the motor (Number 7 and 8 according to this diagram http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ASEMaster35yrs/2010-03-17_090540_chevy_v8_firing_order_diagram.jpg) were oily.

The boat uses more oil than I would expect considering the hours on the motor. I reckon it uses between 500ml and 1L per 50 hours.

The boat has 497 hours and is due for a new PCV valve according to the service schedule.

I have had PCV problems on cars before causing oil consumption.

Has anyone had a similar problem before?

Is there something I am missing?

Cheers

Stewart
