I've been searching for information about Sportsters for barefoot/skiing. It seems like I've seen the 1998-2000 models mentioned as really good or possibly different for some reason.

Is there anything different about these year models? Are the 2001 and up models considered as good for barefoot?

Thanks in advance, Jimmy

The Sportster never changed. It was on the same hull for the duration of it's production life.

I have read actually (from barefoot enthusiasts) that the Closed Bow was slightly different than the Open Bow (LX model). I have read that the LX model had one more strake added to give better lift in the bow area which affected the wake SLIGHTLY.

Regardless, however the Sportster is an AWESOME barefoot boat. Barefooters rave about them and comment all the time that the Sportster should have been Malibu's barefoot boat. You can't go wrong with a Sportster. I am a barefooter and have one and love it. There is not a boat Malibu makes anymore that I would even consider buying (maybe a Response if they still make them??).

The Sportster's wake is great but the biggest comment I hear, and I concur, is that the wake is less defined for back wakes and hard to feel, where as a Flightcraft or a Sanger has a very defined wake and you know when you have crossed it backwards because you "fall off" the wake, which is good for competition.

Sportster Closed Bow or LX are awesome...Get one!!!
