Modifying the stock glove box cover

In another thread I was asking about gas shocks that I'm going to replace cause they just don't work well anymore (worn out), and I got to thinking....

I hate my glove box lid because it's real flimsy and does not have a gas shock on it to keep the door open. Thus, you have to use one hand to keep the door open while fishing around for stuff with the other hand.

So... I was thinking of fixing that problem...

Has anyone done this already?

John,

I haven't seen a '97 before, but by '98 they had already added a gas shock to the glove box lid. So it looks like '97 might have been the last year without one.

You can defenitely add the ball mounts you'll need to add a shock. I've seen them for sale in the NAPA catalog I got my replacement glove box shock from.

I have thought about experimenting with some carbon graphite and molding a higher shaped lid with a different latch since mine is really flimsy and the latch does not work.

Has anybody done something like this?

How did it go?

Was it a PITA?
