Broke the new VTX :(

Took the new Bu out for its 3rd run today - first day of our 4 day Easter long weekend. We all had a great first run - but just pulling the next skier out we hit a massive submerged log!! Luckily the skier was fine... Not so the Bu. looks like we have bent the drive shaft - massive vibrations and heaps of water coming out from where it enters the hull. How big a job is it to re-balance? No other visible damage luckily.

Any ideas ?

HArd really to sau but if shaft bent that will get replaced, if the water coming in because torn seal, that's easy, if some other explanation for water intrusion, likley a bigger job. Strut could be bent too

It depends - You could be looking at a new shaft, strut, rudder and or prop. Anywhere from 500 to 2000 in parts plus labor.

If you did glass and gel damage to the point where you punctured the boat, it will be in the thousands.

I'd go ahead and call you insurance company and get the claim going.

I had a similar incident last summer, but yours sounds worse. You're probably easily in for several thousand in repairs. As already mentined, call the insurance agent. Sorry to hear this. I hope a shop can get you back on the water soon!

Thanks guys. Dropped it off at the shop this morning - no visible damage to anything so they are hoping the bang on the drive shaft made the log go under the prop and rudder ( ie it could have been worse!!). Still, it will be an insurance job, and hopefully we will have it back for next weekend :)

Yep, damn Brisbane River. It was weird too because it usually only has lots of rubbish floating in it after big storms - and we have not had one for ages. If only we had gone to Somerset... :(. It such a shame that the River is so close and tempting :)
