SAE 40 in my V-Drive and engine?

Recommended Posts

The shop that winterized the Walters VDrive likely put sae 40 instead of the recommended non detergent 30wt. The receipt only indicates they used sae 40 for the oil change and VDrive, and shop tech didn't remember, and thinks he used 40wt. They did use dextron III for tranny.

Should I change engine oil since they used sae40 instead of 15w40 marine?

Should I change VDrive since they likely also used sae40 instead of non detergent 30wt?

I knew I'd worry about it, so I changed it out this morning. What came out was very dirty, so I am not convinced that the shop changed the VDrive fluid at all. Anyway, it's done and we surfed for 6 hrs. Awesome day.

Good to hear. I wouldn't give that shop any more of my business then, or at least would swing by to discuss that you just had to do a job you paid them to do.
