How to keep boat cover clean?

I have a '95 Echelon with a stock cloth cover. This is my 2nd cover after the original lasted 15 years and finally gave out.

Was wondering if anyone has a way to keep the black spots from appearing on the cover. Not sure what it is, almost looks like mold and is hard to remove and just comes back.

Mine had horrible mold after i purschased the boat - I used oxyclean - worked like a champ! Actually ran it a clothes washer with it - a large clothes washer...lol

What side of the cover are the spots on? Does it have vents allowing the cover to breathe. I take mine once a year to a laundromat and wash it with mild detergent in a 3xl commercial washer, let it dry in the driveway for a couple hours, and coat it with 3M fabric protectant. Do not spray that stuff on with the cover on the boat

Or on the grass, my buddy "waterproofed" a large area of his lawn :bash:

Spots are on the outside of the cover, but can be seen thru to the inside. No vents on the cover, but I put an inner tube towards the rear to give it a little more height and keep water from pooling behind the engine. Just wondering if there is a way to keep it from molding each year?
