New Steering System

Hello all...looking into suggestions to replace the steering system in a 1996 Response. My brother has over 1000 hours on his baby,

the cable has been changed several times and it has been adjusted, greased, so on and so forth. He loves the boat but is going

to fully replace the whole steering system and he has come to his brother for the answer...thus I'm asking the most intelligent group

out there...The Crew!!! Thoughts and suggestions as to what the best option or options are...thanks as always for all of your input.

What is driving the replacement? I would certainly rebuilt the rudder setup with new bushings, replace the cable if it is stiff and probably look in to a rack and pinion steering setup. It would be a direct replacment with only needing a compatible steering cable to match to the different steering gear.

Not sure to be honest...I know steering his boat at the end of the season increased the size

of my forearms!!! Any comments on the "cableless" systems??? By your comments Woodski

can I assume that a little attention to the rudder assembly may be in order?
