1994 Malibu Echelon Lx Steering Cable Replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

Before the season starts here in Minnesota (probably May this year), I'd like to replace my steering cable. I contacted SKIDIM (Discount Inboard Marine), whom I think are a very good company. They suggested a UFLEX kit that includes a tilt mechanism. The cost $356. I don't think this is a direct replacement. Has anyone else replaced their cables and if so what did you buy and from where?

Thanks for the help.

The steering cable and the tilt mechanism are two separate components. Both are subject to wear, probably why they suggested replacing both. Steering cable failure causes a stiff steering while the tilt mechanism results in a loose or wobbly steering wheel. The Uflex kit they suggest is a replacement for the steering cable, the tilt mechanism is a separate unit.
