Gas Cap Gaskets

I have noticed that my gas caps spin and then suddenly stop as bare metal hits metal. There is supposed to be a small rubber O ring that goes on the cap that seals the fuel cap and allows to seal better, but both of mine have rotted and fallen off. I thought that they had these at Bake's but could not find them when I just placed an order for some other stuff. Although the caps appear to stay snug, I can't help but worry that they are not watertight.

Anyone know where I can get them? I think that they are 1 7/8 in diameter. My local hardware store had nothing like that, and I am not sure I want to use anything that was not meant for this purpose anyway.

I'm guessing this is what you have?

It looks like a perko product but, I can't find it on Perko's website.

edit, this might be close. Click on "spare parts".

All you really need is a Viton O-ring that matches the recess. Measure it with caliphers and bring the cap with you to maybe a hydraulics shop?

Yes, that is exactly my same gas cap. Unfortunately, it looks like even on the Perko website, the cap only comes as an entire unit.

i went to the plumbing section of Home Depot and got an assortment pack of o-ring gaskets for 4 or 5 bucks (maybe less). i think the largest one in teh assortment pack fit just right.

Thanks for the replies. I will be taking to Bake's today, so will ask them. Endless ballast upgrades...but that is another thread.

If they can't get them, I will check Home depot. I have a Lowe's right next to where I work, so that is where I tried the first time.

I just got off the phone with Bake's. They have them in stock, and I ordered a couple. I did check their online store and could not find them.

Andrew thought that they don't have them listed.
