Bad Gauge?

Recommended Posts

My oil pressure gauge went dead. I replaced the sending unit and it moves the needle but only to the pegged position.

What is the cause of this?

Is the gauge bad or wrong sending unit?

How can I meter out the gauge and sending unit to know they are w/i spec or working?

Thanks

Sounds like you are dealing with a process of elimination. If you are relatively certain that you have installed the sending unit correctly you may check the following:

1. Cannon Plug- Do a search for this on wsr if you are not familiar with it

2. Replace the gauge.

I had a problem with my oil pressure readings. The dealer replaced the sending unit and bypased the cannon plug just to be safe.

Hope this helps

Ground the wire, the needle should peg. Sounds like the sender is doing the same thing, or the wire is grounding out somewhere inbetween. Take the wire off the sender to verify it goes to zero. If it instantly pegs when you place it back on, either the sender is the wrong one, the sender is bad, or the wire terminal is grounding out on the housing, etc.

Good luck,

Peter

Thanks for the responses! The gauge does instantly peg out when on the sending unit and drops back to 0 when disconnected. I'll play around with it more and see what comes of it.

Thanks again
