Trailer Crossmember Weep Holes

Recommended Posts

Drill some. It will help to keep your trailer from rusting from the inside-out. Check the other drain holes periodically to make sure they are not stopped up.

Yeah, that's what I was doing. I'm in the process of moving so the only tool I had was a paperclip  so that's what I decided to do when I noticed 3 of the smaller front crossmembers didn't have weep holes.

Drill a hole for sure, keep it on center of the frame with a 3/8".

I've seen water get stuck in the frame and freeze breaking the weld and cracking that support frame... ugly stuff

When I first got my boat in 2008 I put it inside a heated building at work. It was winterized, but it seemed there was always a puddle under it. Never thought much about it, till it came time to re-do the trailer. One of the weep holes had plugged itself with rust/debris and it was full of water, slowly leaking out. Had to weld that cross member up and drill new holes on all of them, and I used 3/8" too.

I had to drill 2 of mine, same deal. I was tempted to spray some type of undercoating or primer in there but didn't figure it would be enough to make a difference. It was rusty.
