383 Hammerhead Engine Reliability?

Starting to split hairs.... my boat before a HH was a Merc 4.3... I gained 215 hp .... even a HH with a miss would be a huge step up.

I never did add on my first post... the HH did nearly let me down once. The nylon fitting at the top of the EXT /CAT failed.... it is a know issue when you are surfing..starve the high side of water and it overheats the fitting... not a specific HH issue more an EXT/CAT issue but if you are surfing you should look to moving to a brass fitting and thermostat housing mod. A few have suffered this failure.

a miss can be fixed...there was a reason, actually several why Malibu replaced the 07 with a new boat...and I know of quite a few more who's engines and or boats were replaced.

As with other posts, you either got a good one or one that simply wasn't going to work. The one's that got good ones, have a great engine in their boat.

sorry i was being sarcastic about the miss - even a poorly running HH is a huge step up from my old boat ... even a monsoon is a big step up. . I have one of good HHs. I don't equate the nylon fitting to a poor design or issue. Surfing is taking the boat outside it's designed use so you can expect so potential issues. If I used the boat as designed.. wakeboarding.... i would never have had an issue with the fitting as the cooling would have bee equal to both manifolds.
