Wet Battery Terminal Normal?

I've got a top terminal battery that i've noticed somehow leaves a little residue on the positive terminal after a few weeks.

It's in my basement well off the floor and I top off with a cheapie trickle charger every month or so.The residue is a little gritty and dark too. I did pop off the vents and it seems full .

Sound like an issue?

I took a close look, dont see any crack, but I may even get a magnifying glass to really look close. Wish I could take a pic, I never replaced my camera after thieves broke in, ahem. Thanks Pete,
