Wakesurfing, Props, Performance And Gas

As we've started weighting down our boat, using more wedge and generally dialing it in, I've noticed that gas consumption has gone up. Going from 2800 RPM to 31-200 RPM doesn't seem like a big difference, but it's using a lot more GPH. I came here yesterday and did some reading about different perspectives and now I'm wondering if anyone has used a different prop and if it's helped gas consumption.

This seems to be most relative post. PowPowPatrol and anyone else using the 1837: Is your GPH better, same or worse since moving to a prop that runs at higher RPM?

Tyger, every time I have ever done the math on this type of thing I have come to the conclusion that it will take forever to recover the costs. If you put a ton of hours on your boat and plan to keep it a really long time maybe it would be worth it. Just my opinion.

I was just reading over at wake world about the OJ 5 blade prop. Guys saying that it improved holeshot, top end and reduced rpms especially when wake boarding or wake surfing. I guess lower RPMS would mean better fuel efficiency.

Apparently Axis is going to make it an option at some point? I haven't heard anything about it on here.

We just purchased the oj 5 blade on the group buy. On the way to Dale Hollow Lake as we speak. I'll update performance tomorrow.

any update on the performanc of the OJ TZ-x5 prop. I have a 04- 23 LSV very curious how it performs. I have a 537 now and was thinking of upgrading to a 1273.

Has anybody tried the new ACME 2259 - 5 blade prop?

I have the OJ 5 blade on my enzo and it was a huge improvement over an Acme 537 and 1579 for wakesurfing. The top end was less than the 537 but about the same as a 1579. I run about 2200#'s of ballast surfing at 11.5 mph and the engine went from 3400 rpm to 3000 with the 5 blade. The 5 blades just have so much more grip on the water. No more cavitation at all.

If you have room for a larger diameter you should consider an Acme 14.5"x15.5" 0.105 cup as well as a 5 blade.
