2001 Sunsetter Lxi When To Give It A Tune Up

I got a 2001 Sunsetter LXI this fall it has the monsoon 325hp motor. The boat has 870 hrs on it and from what I can tell it never been tuned up. This fall I changed the oil with amsoil oil, amsoil oil filter, and a new wix fuel filter. Should I put new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor on it to? Other then that what should I do to the boat to make sure the boat is top condition?

If they truely haven't been changed in 870 hours, you are certainly due for plugs, and a cap and rotor. If the wires are in good shape they should be fine. Combine this with the oil and fuel filter change you've already done and there is not much more you can (or need to ) do to that Monsoon.

Good news is if even if they have been changed, you are not talikng about a bunch of money to go ahead and changed the plugs, cap and rotor out, and you can certainly do that yourself, so I would go ahead and do it.

Add a fuel filter and water separator change to the list and you'll be set for next year! Might be worth checking out the belts and the impeller as well.

Yes, I forgot about the belt. Another relatively cheap part you can repalce yourself for peace of mind.

don't forget the transmission fluid. i do mine at the end of every season. It takes about 2 quarts

I did change the tranny fluid this past fall. I also did a fuel filter but my boat does not have a fuel/water separator. I like to add water separator but not sure where to put it. new belt and impeller is a good Idea. Thanks

If you don't do plug wires, at least check for corrosion in them and check the impedance of the wires.

Since the boat is new to you and you don't what has been done and when it was done last - I'd just go ahead and do a complete tune up so that you have peace of mind that everything is good for the up comming season.

Change Oil and Filter

Change Transmission

Change Cap, Rotor and Plugs (remember to gap the plugs)

Replace Belt

Replace Thermostat

Lubricate Started Bendix and Rudder Zirk Fitting

Clean out Flame Arrestor with Berryman Parts Cleaner

Check fluid level of batteries

This is what I can think of off the top of my head. Should not cost more than 200 in parts and a half a day of your own labor.

I'd look into cleaning your fuel injectors too. I pulled mine last summer and was shocked at the stuff that came out of the screens on top on the injectors. Boat ran much better after that.

Realistically you can clean them without pulling them out of the boat, but once you've gottne the fuel rail off it's pretty easy to just pull them completely.
