Hey Everyone,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 87 Skier and I need some advice on how to rebuild the drivers seat. The 4x4 wood structure is a pain and i would rather use some sort of plastic or fiberglass base. Any ideas, thoughts or recomendation would be great. Thanks..Jake

I had the same concerns when I was rebulding my '87 Skier... In the end I ended up using pressure treated lumber and PT plywood. Cost effective and will most likely outlast me.

I promised myself I would never do this again...

It was interesting where the original materials (wood) would rot; like anywhere a wetsuit would drain. This boat was not a trailer queen, as it was in the water from early May until October, so even condensation was taking it's toll.

I didn't document the rebuild, but cost effective and readily available materials were the priorities to get the boat back in the water.

My 87' Sunsetter has a flat base made out of material like a poly cutting board. The base then has slides bolted to it and the seat bolts to the slides so the seat can go forward and back to fit the driver. I believe it is a base and seat out of a 07' Response.

how does the wood seat attach to the metal base? Is the base soemthing that is universal?

the rot in this boat is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen!..I will be using pt wood and hope for the best..

My seat is a newer Response seat so the base is made of plastic and not wood. The base of the seat when the base cushion is removed has four holes in it. The slides have 4 studs that stick through these holes and a washer a lock nut goes on each stud.

Here's a seat slide that might work for you.

Starboard or other ABS plastic is fairly readily available in 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4" sheets. Cuts and fastens like wood, but will live forever.

Peter

how about this for a floor? where can i get it?
