I wanna take off my black 2010 VLX G3 tower and get it powder coated white. Has anyone removed theirs yet.... If so how was it? Any help or hints would be great!

I put one on my boat. Really simple task really, but you'll need 3 people to ensure that there is no damage to your topdeck and to ensure total control of the tower all the time once you remove the pistons if you take it off in 2 pieces. There is a large allen bolt that holds the tower onto the base, this is the pivot point. There is a large phillips head that holds the piston into the base. There is a small plate on the upper portion of the tower (just above the base) that covers the where the piston attaches to the top of the tower.

To take it off in one piece or to remove the bases there are 3 allen head bolts up into the tower with a backing plate on each side of the boat. All you have to do is remove these 6 bolts and the tower will come off. You'll need to cut the wires on each side of the tower coming up through the gunnel. Might be a good time to made a quick disconnect.

You'll need to have the boat in a place that you can raise the tower all the way up when putting it back on due to the pistons and the way you need to them.

Good luck it's really not a bad job. I'd take all the racks and tower speakers off first to lighten the tower as much as possible.
