Sonny, on my boat the brn/wht wire runs from the ECM to the data link connector. This is the connector a mechanic would plug his diagnostic tool into. It comes from the smoke colored (as opposed to clear) connector on the ECM, terminal #27, and goes to the "E" terminal on the data link connector. That wire sends an coded signal to a mechanics diagnosic tool if there is a trouble code stored in the ECM. It will have no effect on engine performance if it is disconnected because it is not connected to anything unless a mechanic plugs in his diagnosic tool or code reader. The wire is refered to as the "code emitter" wire.

Thank you so much John I was pulling my hair out looking where this wire came from...I have just got my boat shipped from the USA to New Zealand and trying to clean it all up for xmas as this is our summer over here ,bought it unseen but a friend of mine went and had a look for me , got it back and it is so dirty I would never let my mal get like this so started to take it to bits and I have found it has two big amps which I did not know was there ,sub, cap, and most of all a hammerhead engine....,tower,tower speakers, tower lites, all for $9,500us which is $11,300nz, Once again thank you so much John.

Not sure if you have a merc engine or not, but manuals can be found online with all the info you'd ever want.

Here's where I go when I'm searchin' out pieces parts.

Do you think it was the test point, like electricjohn said? If not, I'm wondering if it's related to the horn maybe?

Let us know,

Steve B.

its at the back of the motor so wouldnt have any thing to do with the horn,,,,,john is right on the money , thanks to all tho.....yay
