Gas Tank Leakage

Recommended Posts

Malibu 21XTi

I have a 2003 Malibu 21 XTI. (Mid engine.) Recently after putting my boat in storage, the carpet in the rear section of the boat has an appearance of a gas leak. It is located around the rear section where the table mounts.

Where would a possible leak come from that would come either up through the floor or along the top of the fuel tank?

Anyone ever experience this?

Thanks.

Check the connections on the fuel tank for the fuel level sensor and the supply to the engine. It could simply be a gasket leak, or a hose cracking. When I replaced my fuel level sensor, the replacement gasket leaked and I used permatex to seal it.

I am not looking at a tube of it at the moment, but doesnt permatex it say it is not for use around fuel applications? It probably works but not recommended...

I don't think it did (if I recall it said something to the effect of being suitable for use with fuel)...but you could be right though. A LOT of the various sealants out there say don't use with fuel, because they will just erode. Definitely check the fine print on the package.

Thanks, Guys. i am going to use a scope to see if I can see any cracked hoses or rseiddue to indicate a loose fitting. It was just starnge that the leak did not appear until after the boat was in the garage and not on the lift at the river.

Thanks again.
