Refinish Illusion XS

Recommended Posts

I am trying to pick and choose my winter projects and was wondering if anyone has refinished an Illusion tower. Mine has quite a few scratches and scuffs and I was wondering how I should go about fixing them. I have a close friend who has a body shop, so I would have his help if I need it. Also would it involve removing the whole tower?

I have done some modifications to those towers and found that they use ALOT of body filler type stuff to smooth the finish of the aluminium that they are made from. I would imagine it could be refinished in the same manner they do vehicles, and depending on how severe the damage is it may be possibe to just do spot repairs on the boat with some masking. I have heard of others powdercoating them, but I was curious if they use a special filler that can withstand 400 degrees or what, cause the stuff under the black sure looks like Bondo. By any rate to get a complete refinish and get the best job possible, I would say the tower would need to come off.
