Fuel Consumption - Power Wedge

G'day Gents,

We took our 2007 VLX for its first proper run over the weekend. We did some running with the wedge down and then with the wedge up, but with more people in the boat.

It seemed like the wedge increased fuel consumption quite dramatically compared to extra weight. Has anyone done some testing etc to prove or disprove this?

Cheers

Stewart

Yes the wedge will increase gas consumption, these inboards are not very "economy" on gas. When you taken on 1,250 lbs of water and wedge with full accompaniment of people fuel consumption increases. In terms of handling it requires more out of the whole but much improved after the '05 my imho. In the end it's a boat and it'll use gas just part of the territory.... afterall we use gallons per hour to talk gas mileage in boats.....with that said 6-8 gallons per hour roughly is what you'll expect but riding conditions, cruising, start stops, full vs. empty ballast are all factors as well.
