Easiest way to determine impeller #

I have two boats, a 1999 Malibu Response LX with a 350 monsoon indmar engine (carbureted) engine was replaced in 2003. And a 2008 Sunscape 20 LSV with a 340 monsoon engine.

What would be the easiest way to figure out which impeller these boats take? Do all Malibu with Indmar engines still use the Johnson 09-812B

Both boats will use the same impeller...don't forget to replace the white gasket too! Bad gaskets cause pump priming problems which could lead to overheating the engine.

Get the Globe 100J run-dry. Only slightly more expensive. Bakes will also sell you the gasket seperately (charged me $5 shipped for it). I got my Globe off of an E-bay retailer (brand new) for $44.97 shipped on a Buy It Now, as that was easier/cheaper than the group buy here.

My reasoning for spending the few extra bucks on the Globe was simple - I think it is going to last a lot longer. I notice after pulling my fake-a-lake off of my boat, the boat drains most of the water out of the system (if not nearly all since mine is closed cooling, so there isn't lake water running through the block or heater). My thinking is every time you start the boat fresh, there is a bit of time the impeller is running dry - even if only a second or two - before it gets water sucked into it. I'd rather has an impeller that is designed to handle that.

Further, when working on the boat, there may be a time you need to bump the motor over for a second. Why have to hook up the fake-a-lake every time? The material also seemed more durable than the rubber on the Johnson impeller.

Oh yeah - don't waste your money on a puller. Spray a bit of WD40 in the housing, bump the motor over just enough to turn the impeller a bit, and pull it out with needle nose pliers.
