Oil pressure gauge

Recommended Posts

The oil pressure gauge in my 98 VLX has been partially functioning since the day I bought it 6 years ago.

The gauge will be displaying oil pressure just fine, and then "reset"... that clicking noise the gauges make when they start up... drop to 0, and then back up to the pressure level.

Anyone know where to start troubleshooting this? I assume the entire gauge is bad?

It not the guage, it's a connection. MIne does the same thing. It often helps (for a while) to push the connector together for the large bundle of wires at the rear of the engine.

In 98 there is 2 fuses under the dash that are in line to the mdc(computer for the gauges). You can just cut the fuses out and butt connect them together . The glass fuses tend to have connection problems. If all the gauges go out then it is a power or ground issue . So this my help .. Good luck .

Oh !!! Duh I read it again thought you said all gauges .. The reset is the only thing that is confusing . I would think that it is in the signal wire thru the plug that connects the boat to the motor. Or possibly a bad gauge .
