How to change Transmission oil

Recommended Posts

I use a $3.00 karosine pump from wallmart. works great and it is reuseable  . Pump it out through the dip stick/fill orifice and refill. Make sure to measure the amount you take out and replace with that same amount to get you close to full. Fine tune from there when everything is warmed up and the boat is level.

Another tip: you trim the end of the pump so it will get more of the oil out.

:plus1: I use a pump. Use a long pick up tub so if it comes off it can not fall into the transmission .

Good point the walmart version is long enough not to fall in. It is also a hand pump so there are no chances of a fire.

I use a skinny turkey baster, measuring what I get out, and then replacing with the same amount.

I thought about that but the amount of time you spend basting the tranny turned me off to it. I do still measure the amount removed, though. I have also heard of folks using the pumps that are powered by drills, though haven't tried them my self.
