Titan Alpha 1 Tower Speakers

Recommended Posts

I am looking to install 4 Titan Alpha 1's on my Titan II tower. I want to get the Performance edition based on looks, but I don't know if there is a difference in sound or quality versus the standard ones.

Does anybody have any amps they recommend? I have a stereo in there now (6 speakers) that came stock with the boat and a head unit. Is there a way to wire it so I can put the tower speakers on a switch on the accessory panel (separate them from the in-boat speakers)?

Is drilling through the tower and the fiberglass the only way to hide the wires? What options are out there and look best? I've also read about wiring harnesses, but don't know what they are used for.

The boat is a 2006 Sunsetter LXi if that helps.

I don't know too much at all about installing tower speakers, so any advice is appreciated.

Take it from someone on there third set of tower speakers. You can spend less money and have a way better product. Personally I started with 4 alpha ones. Then upgraded to 4 performance series , now I'm running exile surf speakers. The exiles where cheaper and way way better. I should have listened to the crew the first time.

You will need to drill out the aluminum tower at the bottom of one leg just above the fitting large enough to run all your speaker wires through and a smaller hole at each of your speaker mount areas. You will then need to drill a hole in the fiberglass. Remember to run the drill in reverse to get through the gel coat before finishing in forward to avoid cracks. I have covered my exposed speaker wire in black heat shrink, looked good. I have also used rubber gromets in the aluminum and a stainless insert through the hull. Remeber to leave enough wire for collasping the tower or just install a water proof plug instead. I'm not an audio file either but I have had the alpha 1 speakers and they just can't put the sound out at wakeboard rope length very well. They look great but 4 alpha 1's don't touch just 2 exile's. Which is what I have finally gone to after two other sets of tower speakers. I wished I had just did the exile route....spent way more money than I needed to. As far as amps go, I believe that these speakers are 100 - 150 RMS each. You will need to find an amp that can push at least this times 4. I installed a wet sounds ws420 to be able to manage the volume of the tower speakers and the boat speakers separtately.

Good luck.

Just one last note: I forgot to ask you what you will be using your boat for, if you are looking for music at surf distance and more volume in the boat, then the alpha 1's work great. Just not very loud at full rope length doing 22 miles an hour. Just my opinion.

The alpha 2 will be a little better but again for what your spending i'd go to a pro audio speaker. There are lots of them for sale used right now with everyone getting the new 2012 gear. Exile wetsounds bullet. Etc.

If you like the look of the Alpha 1 cans just run the Kicker Horn System and you will not have a problem hearing them while riding.. The package we offer comes with 2 Kicker Horns and 2 Kicker Mid-Range Drivers.. In my personal boat I also put two extra midrange drivers in the other side of the cans that have the drivers in them to push some tunes to the front of the boat and they sound fantastic.. Here are a couple pictures of what they look like.. I have also just recently put the performance grills on both sides to give them a little more style..

Thanks Brett. I like that idea. 2 questions; First, how do you get the Alpha 1 performance cans and the Kicker speakers inside? Can you buy the cans separate? Is it a lot more expensive because you are buying the alpha 1's then replacing the speakers? Thanks, appreciate the comment!

Brett,

I know this is an ancient post, but I'm trying to find Alpha 1 can performance grills such as those you posted about in this thread (Sep 21, 2011). Can you tell me if I find some, are they designed to fit the Alpha 1 cans as is? And what are the chances you would know how I can get four of them?

Thanks!
