How is the hammerhead engine working out for u guys/girl who have steped it up in the hp stakes. Is there a noticeable difference in power, fuel economy,or any other plus or minus u might have.I have to make up my mind as colours and final spec has to be in next week for delivery of my 06vlx on 17feb. For the bigger boats (VLX & up) I'd say it's mandatory, but then again I'm biased. You won't see any fuel mileage gains (if you do it will most likely be negligible), but performance is another story, especially loaded down. You won't be disappointed if you decide to go for it.

Mandatory maybe a little bit of a stretch in the VLX but true for the LSV and bigger. There haven't been any complaints on the board from those who have it. I don't have any problems with the power of my monsoon. Quite honestly if the power of the monsoon was inadequate, I would have sold my 05 and ordered a 06 with the HH.

We have a 04 LSV with a monsoon, no complaints at all, never had trouble getting up on plane. Only at altitude with full ballast and 11 people did we notice it not jumping up to speed.

I've got the monsoon in a 04 vlx with the stock prop, and it's fine most of the time,

but when I load up with full MLS, Wedge two additional rear fatsacks and 325lbs of lead in the bow and 5 adults with one in tow the Monsoon works real hard. It's not enough.

I wish I had the new Hammerhead.

My friends 03 wakesetter with wedge, full balast, 14 people (yeah we were squished!) and an extra 1000lbs of sacks the monsoon wasn't enough!!!! The boat was working so hard to get on a plane it was scary...but so was the wake Shocking.gif

I am really impressed with the Hammerhead. 75 hours on it now and it is fantastic. The Malibu dealer @ Tahoe considers the Hammerhead the standard engine. Tahoe is @ 6,200 ft.

That's why I qualified it by saying that I'm biased. Biggrin.gif If you have the room in the budget to spend on the option, get the HH & don't look back. You'll be able to run the boat anywhere & not feel underpowered (I run at 3k feet & up regularly, I only get to come down to sea level maybe 3 or 4 times a year). If you're trying to stay within budget & this is going to put you way over & in big trouble with the CFO, then the Monsoon will work fine. Other considerations are how often you run at any kind of high elevation (even 2500 can be a lot on these motors, especially when you load them with ballast) & how often you run more than normal loads (lots of people and/or extra ballast). Both of those conditions are where the HH is really going to pull away from the Monsoon.
