2007 VLX Fuel Filter

Recommended Posts

Shuswap VLX

Took my boat in to the local indy service guy with a great reputation. Quite happy, he recommended changing the fuel filter and indicated that it is in the fuel tank in the fuel pump about 1.5 hours labour +parts. Picked it up, he wasn't impressed with the local Malibu dealer, they related to him that the filter doesn't get changed, rather the recommendation is to replace the fuel pump every 500 hours. He replaced the filter regardless. This sounds bizarre, anyone know about this?

Both of those guys are crazy. I swap mine every year. Takes me 15 minutes if I have to uncover the boat. You pop the snap ring on the fuel line and pull it out of the tank. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the old filter out. Drop the new one in and reinstall the fuel line and snap ring. Done.

Concur with Little John. If you're ultra fancy you can get a pair of snap ring pliers which makes this about a 30 second job.

Its only 30 seconds if you forget your beer and the boat is already uncovered. ;)

I heard from a 'friend' that it's a 2 or 3 attempts and a lot of stupid questions if you are a complete doofus and try to pull the fuel filter out of the the fuel pressure valve hole instead. :(

But when you actually do replace the fuel filter, it is brain dead easy. Even someone as mechanically dangerous as my 'friend' didn't have any problems.

That's the first I've heard about replacing the fuel pump tho. Are those really only rated for 500 hours?! They are not cheap.

Anyone know where I find the fuelfilter(s?) on a 2006 VLX? Is there one inside the fueltank?

I find this one http://bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=1042 just outside the tank

I was surprised I couldn´t find something like this http://bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=743 cause I had it on other boats.

Am I lost or does my boat only have the small filter? Thanks..

Thanks guys. Will check with the mechanic whether it was an internal filter to the fuel pump and look it over next year for the inline. For now it's buttoned up in the garage until next May. Unfortunately it's time to think about sliding on the white stuff instead.

The dealer may have been referring to the 2008 which has no filter. Yours has a small filter that is easy to get to .

Your filter is to the left of the Vdrive under the center rear seat. You can get a Napa 3299 filter of WIX 33299 as a replacement. You defiantly have a external filter.

The fuel filter on your 2006 Wakesetter VLX is the inline WIX 33299 fuel filter

Just to clarify (since its a little off topic to this thread) the 2007 In tank fuel filter cartridge is the the WIX 33048 fuel filter.

The dealer may have been referring to the 2008 which has no filter. Yours has a small filter that is easy to get to .

Your 2008 has a GEN3 Fuel pump, and it does have a fuel regulator / fuel filter combo that needs to be serviced every 300 hours.

Here are some directions and photos how to identity whether you have a GEN2 or GEN3 In tank fuel pump.

Hope this helps you guys out!

Paul
