Attwood Flush Mounted Fuel Vent Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I wanted to upgrade to a fuel vent so that the ski lines would not hang up on it and something with a little more bling. Besides, someone posted in another thread that the new Malibu's come with these fuel vents. So, I order the new Attwood 90 degree Flush Mounted Fuel Vent. It came in the mail today and had to put it in. The install was pretty painless. The hardest part was drilling the hole to one and half inches using a hole saw. I also positioned the 90 degree elbow upward about 45 degree to let water drain out.

Not sure when they started, but this is from Danno's 2011 LSV.

The gas vent has an allan key hole in the middle and if you loosen it off enough, it comes out and there is a small stainless mesh filter in it. We will load the boat up tomorrow with ballast, shut it off and see what happens.

Here's the thread:

Do you think the new style vent will allow us SSLXI owners to fill the tank faster? Tired of taking 15 minutes to fill the tank with 30 gal of fuel... Is the vent opening larger than the old style bullet?

Looks good I will install one of those along with the racor this winter, or does the new style vent eliminate the need for the racor?

And according to this evaluation, the Racor LG100 performed the best at avoiding spilled gas (from both the vent and the fill). They don't go into specifics on the other devices tested (including the Attwood) but just indicated that the LG100 performed the best. It was either this same evaluation or another one that made me decide to install the LG100 when I purchased my boat in 2008.

Does anyone know if the Racor devices will inhibit water getting into the tank through the vent?
