How to Remove Illusion X Tower Ball?

Recommended Posts

Carefully pry up the top cap, it's held in by the friction of an O-ring. Remove the nut holding tow spool in place and slide off. Don't throw the spool around, as the dual needle bearings inside it can be jarred. When re-installing, loosen the allen set screw and tighten main nut until tow spool does not spin easily, then tighten allen set screw (acts as jam nut).

Peter,

Thank you for the reply. I have an 08 VLX with the Illusion tower, and I can barely raise the cap on the top of the tow ball. There is no screw to slide anything. Am I suppose to pull the whole top off the tow ball.....seems hard to pry?

Thanks

Peter has it right.

You need to pop off the cap, remove the nut on top of the shaft that the ball spins on. Then you slide the ball off and the shaft is left in place. Then you can use a wrench to remove the shaft from the tower.

The cap has to come off.

Anyone know where to get the "nut" with the allen screw 06 illusuion tower....turns out if you tighten the nut against the set screw it will break!

Thanks in advance!

Can anybody help me with what type of screw and size that holds the hoop on

I don't believe hoop on the Illusion X tower is removable. Are you asking about the hoop on the Illiusion XS tower? If so that is two 3/8" allen head bolts that are captive inside the hoop. We had a 6-8" allen wrench that came with the boat for this purpose.
