Fuel gauge issue..

Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster.. We picked up a new (to us) 2004 Malibu 21ft LSV with the 340 Monsoon this summer.. We love this boat! We just returned from a 6 day housboating trip on Bullards Bar where the boat performed flawlessly.. well almost.. on the third day in the AM when I started the boat up for the day the fuel gauge wiggled with all of the other gauges on startup, and then refused to come up off of Empty.... Everything else in the combo gauge is working except the fuel gauge now... Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated!

I went through this same issue, it's most likely your gauge pod, as the servo for the fuel needle died.

To test it, you can put your gauge into "gauge" test mode. If the needle doesn't move then, it's the gauge pod (need to be replaced), if it does move, it's the sender or the wiring.

This is how to test the gauge (on a 04) per Paul at Bake's marine, assuming you have the 4 gauge pod.

Before you order parts you need to check two things.

Turn your ignition key on

Toggle the display button until lake temp in on your center LCD

press and hold down the display toggle for 5-10 seconds and your gauges will go into a test mode

did the fuel gauge move then?

If no - your gauge is bad and needs to be replaced.

If yes, do the following test

Remove center floor board in the middle of the boat.

with key in the on posistion

run a ground jumper wire and short the pink wire to ground

this will give the sending unit full resistance and show that you have a full tank on the dash.

If yes you need a new sending unit

If no on both tests you possibly have something wrong with the computer.
