trailer bunks and keel guard

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had a keel guard put on my 2007 23 ft LSV, and after 3 months the keel guard started coming off at the small front bunks (the bunks are about 12x12inch on port and starboard side). The front bunks sits about 1 or 2inches on keel guard and they think it happened from trailering as the boat probably moved a little bit and the load on the front bunks messed up the keel guard. So the company replaced the keel guard and then cut the depth of the front bunks such that the boat does not sit on them anymore.

They stated the weight of the boat should not really be on these front bunks and its really just for guiding the boat onto the trailer. Any one out there knowledgeable in trailer design and know if this is true or not???? They were saying front bunks are a bad trailer design and it sometimes causes the fiberglass to bend in since there is too much weight on such a small area. I find it hard to believe that trailer manufacturers would have a bad design since they have been making trailers for ages now.

Thanks,

Can't you trim the keel guard so the bunks do not affect it?

Its on with two face tape.
