23 LSV V-DRIVE

Recommended Posts

So two weeks ago my 2006 23lsv with a 8100 froze up on the water. i towed it to Taylors boats (The Utah Malibu dealer) and was told my transmission was shot and needed a total rebuild it would be $4,000.00. didnt have the money so took it home and thought i would try to fix it myself. read some post on here and decided to check my v-drive first. after pulling my v-drive discovered the front bearing was broke. cost for 2 new bearings was $75.00 and took about 4 hours to do the work myself. thanks for the help bu crew saved me $3900.00.

any one in Utah dont go to Taylors unless you like to throw money away.

Any idea what caused the bearing failure? Lack of oil? out of balance propeller? Just pure hours of use?

The only thing I can think of is the dealer rebuilt the engine a year ago and maybe it wasnt aligned correctly? or just pure hours. Oil level was good and the oil was clean?
