Bimini Extension for Illusion X Tower

We have the bimini extension and it works great! It took a couple of times before we got it positioned correctly and as tight as we wanted it. You can't get it as snug as the main bimini, but ours doesn't really move or rattle at all. It adds a couple of feet of shade which is nice is the Texas summer heat.

The only pain is if you want to break down the bimini to trailer long distances. We tow with the extension on if we aren't going far and it does fine. If you're going on a longer trip though, it's somewhat of a pain because it doesn't break down like the main bimini does. It isn't that big of a deal I guess though because we just put in on the floor of the boat when we tow and haven't had any problems.

I definitely recommend it.

One thing you'll want to keep in mind (& this is why I haven't spent the money on the extension) is that from what I've read, the extension tends to work better on the 23' boats than the 21s. When you enter from the rear, it can inhibit getting in the boat since. YMMV of course, but you may want to take a hard look at that aspect.

I must respectively disagree with Wakegirl. I have the extension on my 21 footer, and I can't imagine boating without it. It ends up shading the main area of the boat quite well, I was able to get it as tight as the regular bimini, and it doesn't interfer at all with entering the boat from the rear. I love it.

Could it make a difference how high your dock is on wether or not it hard to get in the boat? Our dock sits over 2 feet out of the water and then you have to get down into the boat rather than step over the side. Wakegirl had told me the same before, but maybe your both right!

Thanks all for your input. I think I am going to move forward with it because the only time I really use the bimini at all is when we are camping with the kids. So, I would only be installing the extension over weekend trips or longer. The standard bimini was a god send last year in the middle of the summer, the additional shade will be nice.

Thanks again,

Joe
