How to replace Exhaust Manifold

Recommended Posts

Jim,

It's very simple if your mechanically inclined.

Just remove the rubber exhaust hose and then unbolt it and swap it out. Especially on inboards it's easily accessed and I beleive only 4 bolts on marine small blocks.

Just remember to pull the manifolds drain plug so you don't accidently pour water into a cylinder.

Might want a buddy there to hold the weight of the manifold when you go to remove it as they are kind of heavy.

I need my exhaust manifolds changed so can anyone tell me how hard it is to do, any info and help. thanks

Jim

Ok but i have another question for you, i am only going to replace the manifold and not the riser so i need to remove the riser from the old manifold so can i unbolt the riser with the hose still attacked and just move it out of the way and then remover the manifold?

It will probably be easier to remove the hose and take off as one piece. I think the riser in the way will make it harder to line up the manifold for the re-install

Well how hard is it to get that hose off, it looks like it is very stiff

Loosen up the clamps (very loose) Use a flat tip screw driver or hose pick and start working around the hose. Spray in some soapy water or WD40 to lube and it's not that bad to twist off.
