Engine Cover Mod Help ('97 VLX)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am interested in getting rid of the electric motor that lifts my engine cover (sun pad). It is terribly inefficient and slooow. I hate having to take the time to raise and lower it when I am checking the ballast. I also feel like it could drain a perfectly good battery with one lifting cycle.

Has anyone replaced it for a manual lift? If so, I would love to see pics or get some advice on where I should start. Thanks in advance.

You would need to do a three piece mod. I tried to replace mine elextric with gas shocks and the deck lid was to heavy for the heaviest duty shock I was able to find. I am sure I could have used 2 or 3 per side and achieved some sort of success but I stayed with my exisiting system. I did however replace my OEM pump motor with a motor from Granger and it is much more efficient. I will see if I can get you some numbers.

I would love the model # for that motor if you can find it. Thanks.

I realized that after I posted... That 3 piece conversion one is elusive...

I know.

I specifically remember beating my brains out trying to find it about a year ago.

I think it got pruned during one of the hosting company shifts.

I know for a fact that a thread that I started about 2 yrs. ago is long gone. I can find it in the Google search but, the link doesn't go anywhere.
