Hour meter problem

Recommended Posts

My hour meter has started to jump 10 hours for every 1 hour of operation, but the meter actually seems to cycle itself. I've ran the boat for about 5 hours like this so far. The actual hours on the boat are around 586, and the hours have jumped to 596, then reset to 506, 516, 526....etc. Does anyone know of a particular solution for this problem, or do I just need to buy a new tach? The boat is a 2000 sunsetter.

Thanks

If you have a mechanical hourmeter then the problem is in the hourmeter gears. It's just "turning" when it's being supplied current but I cna't remember when they went digital even though we had a 1999 and 2000.

Its a digital tach, ECM stores the actual engine hours anyway.

The one with the very tiny lcd display? i seem to recall one like that about that era....never heard of that but I'm pretty sure that all 3 of your gauges use the same port and all terminals carry the same info...might try swapping the plugs.

Ok I will try that out. And yes, it does have the smaller digital tach. The rpm guage was running high for a while (6-7k rpm actually meant 1-2k). Apparently thats a common problem though, and it seems it has fixed itself
