Slow starting 2007 VLX

Recommended Posts

My 2007 VLX has always been slow to start(2-3 seconds) compared to my 2001 Sunsetter Monsoon(1 second). Lately the boar takes at least 5 seconds or more to start and kind of struggles when it does. The motor runs fine otherwise.

When I had my boat at my dealer last fall for warranty work, I mentioned it to the mechanic but he didn't seem to think it was a problem.

Anything I should look at?

Thanks

Jim

Mine almost never fires right off. It's usually about 3 seconds or so, but it doesn't struggle at all.

Strange,,I had an 07 and that was my complaint also. Always started,,but just had to "stay in the key" longer. This was pretty much from day 1,,so it wasnt a plug/wire change fix. I have had a 2000,,02, and 04 before that 07,,and now have a 09. No issues like this with any of the other years,,,just the 07

Slow start sometimes can be attribute to slow to build fuel pressure. If you put in in "On" model first, does it start faster?

Good call, try cycling the key on and off a few times so the fuel pump primes a few times and see if that helps.

Does it turn over slow?

I usually turn the key to on for a second or two before I start. It doesn't turn over slow so I don't think it's the battery and I have a battery tender that I leave plugged up when I'm at the dock.

I will try the new set of plugs (since it's about due) and see what happens but it has been slow to start since day one. Just takes 1-2 seconds more lately.

Thanks

Jim

What are the Marine Cranking Amps of the battery? How old is the battery? Does it sound like the starter is turning over slow? How many revolutions does it sound like before the engine will start?
