Throttle handle head spinning freely.

Recommended Posts

I realize its the middle of a big weekend, but am looking for some help. Yesterday afternoon we were out on my 2005 VLX and when I went to put the boat in gear, the head of the throttle knob started spinning loose. Everything else works fine, the lockout collar and the silver piece below the plastic head are all in place and working fine. The head wont come off, but rotates freely on top, which is not great for accurate driving...

Hoping I'm just missing an obvious detail here, any thoughts or ideas much appreciated. Happy Fourth!

Sounds like the threaded insert broke loose. Ain't that a female dog. Easy to get a replacement and not too expensive but getting the old one off is going to be the trick. You could cut a slot into it with a dremel (up the front, across the top, down the back) and then use a screwdriver to crack it in half.

Thanks NorCali - I got in the boat this morning and the head came clean off. I can see the screw down in the throttle arm, but don't see any threads in the knobs head. Anyway, headed down to local dealer tomorrow for a quick check up - thanks for weighing in, it's much appreciated!
