More Graphics Work

I had the standard 1998 MALIBU letters on the white hull and I'm switching to the 05 graphic like Slurpee now has. Once I got the old letters off (not real hard using a hair dryer) I noticed the slight yet noticeable gel coat discoloration and a slight ridge around the letter marks. I tried a rubbing/polishing compound with a little abrasive in it but it wasn't quite enough. I've read in previous post about wet-sanding and would like to know what grit you start and finish with? 400, 600, 1,000? and once done I'll go back to the polishing compound.

I would say start with the 600 if you don't have any deep scratches or gouges to remove. And I say that because you said you had a ridge. 1000 may be good enough to use for discoloration only. But if you start too fine it will just take more elbow grease to get the job done. But no need for anything less than 400 for sure. Use water with the paper. And I personally would use 2000 after 1000. Just makes the polishing go easier.

Hey thanks, no gouges or scratches but just a very very small ridge around the outline of where the letter was. I think I'll try 600 to 1000 to 2000 then buff.
