Smaller Swim Platform = Cleaner Surfing Wake?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 Wakesetter VLX and I'm wondering if anyone has tried replacing their swim platform with a smaller one to help clean up the surfing wake? I've heard that completely removing the platform works wonders, but I still want/need a way for the kids to get back into the boat.

Thanks!

I have an 07 LSV and run 3,000 # on the surf side. My first move was to smooth out the bottom of the fiberglass platform by adding fiberglass to the bottom (eliminate the lip around the edge and blend in the brackets). Well it improved the wake nicely but I wanted more so I found a old teak swim deck off CL and made new brackets to fit in the existing ones on the boat (my wife likes the padded one when we go on family trips). I found diminishing returns I modified the teak to where it would not touch the water but I was hit with the exhaust in the face and the wave was not as clean. Here are some shots of the difference. I even got the FAE for the exhaust but the wave wash did not clean up like it does with just smoothing out the bottom of the fiberglass one.

Thanks for the info, C28. Do you have photos of the bottom of the fiberglass platform?

Pennery - I'm running 2650 lbs in addition to the stock tanks (250 in the back port, ?? in the floor, and 350 in the bow). I also use the Wedge at 10:00. The wave is great, it just has the nagging 2nd lip on it.

Thanks.
