Surf Wake Critique

Alright, I know this topic has been beaten to death, just looking for a little critique. Just had a custom sac installed on my new 247, which is about 2000 pounds on the regular side. Right now the wake is decently tall, and about 10-14 feet in length (when I added a 750 to the front side of the passenger seats which pretty much put the right side of the boat out of the water yet the rub rail was about 2 inches over the water), is there a way to get more length out of it? I've seen some really nice wakes both in length and size, and I can't seem to get that. This was with stock center, front, and left ballast full. Speed about 12.5, wedge 3 clicks down from the top of the green arc, lake depth 25-30 feet.

Thanks.

put the wedge all the way down and speed up. Speed up till you have to work to stay in the pocket then drop it two clicks. odds are good you speedo is not accurate unless you have it calibrated at surf speed.

Well I thought I'd reopen this thread for some critique... first night out with surf setup. I'm are running 1100lbs in the locker, right/center/front MLS full and 300lbs bag starboard side of bow. Driver and 2 peeps surf side behind driver and about 11.5 mph and wedge one click up from bottom. Do I need more speed to lengthen this out or more weight towards the front? thanks for your input!

Add another 400 or so on the seat behind driver, or on floor, also try adding a 155lb brick in the bow, and speed up to about 12.5 mph...you'll gain length and drive to the wake..

Thanks I'll try another 400 next outing and bump up the speed a bit, thanks for your time!

Adding weight to the front will make the wave longer. However it will make the wave flatter. When training for worlds we put weight in the nose to make the 247 wake more like the flat Enzo wake. Other wise we do not weight the front. In fact we do not use the stock front ballast. Take that 750 out of the nose and move it to the seats in front of your starboard side locker on the seat. Leave the factory ballast in the front empty. In our 2010 we run between 10.4 and 11.2. Though after years of experience, a lot of these boats display speeds that differ from boat to boat. So my recommended speed may not be optimal for your 2010. We also run the wedge at the top of the safe operating range arc on the wedge gauge. We do not ride with the wedge all the way down. As for length control we do not use weight in the nose. Instead we use the speed of the boat to control wave length.

The picture below was taken on the Trinity River in Texas. The boat had three people in it. A driver and two passengers that were sitting on the surf side. We had a custom sac that holds 1500-1600 pounds in the starboard ear locker and under the seats in front of that locker. We put a 380 Fly High Tube Sac under the observers seat that runs the length of that compartment. We had a 400 pound sac on the surf side seat. Factory center and rear right were also full. The speed was 10.8 MPH and water was still (not flowing it is a river remember) and ranged in depth from 25-35 feet.

Dont be afraid to "play around". We have strapped sacs to our plat form! Hit me up anytime. We have surfed 247s since 2006.

PS this is not a child or midget. It is a 5 feet 10 inch tall lady.

Insane wake Stanley....

I don't have pics but just tried out my 06 VLX with extra 750lbs Piggyback bag with stock port side and center ballast full, wedge all the way down with 10 - 11 rpm speed, 4 guys on the boat including the driver (3 of the guys weigh less then 160lbs...) and I have to tell you that we had a super wake and were able to surf way back and had an awesome transition to play with for tricks and ollies. I've jut ordered a tube sac to put under the side seating for when I am lacking humans on the boat or just having children. I have to say that i have read a lot of comments on this site about the Piggyback system and everyone has their thoughts and preferences but to me, for the price and easy instalation, the system works great and does the job. Draining the sac takes a bit longer but once it is almost empty you can just let it sit there and drain into the ballast. I am very happy with the surf wake of the VLX with this set up, I was just about to trade in for a brand new Enzo but I have never tried one so........to me the wedge also makes the big difference if you want a nice, steep wake instead of a long flat one. MALIBU BOATS RULE!!!!!!!!!
