Anyone downsize and regret it? LSV to ??

Ok I Just sold my 2008 LSV. I will be getting a newer boat I was initially thinking of getting a 2009-2010 maybe a new one. I was thinking of going for a VTX or a VLX.

Is this a mistake? Will I miss the LSV and regret geting a smaller boat?

we liked the size of the lsv for sure but thought we would like a smaller boat this time. My wife thinks it will be eaier to drive and to put on the trailer and to tow.

anyone that made the size down please post comments and what you had and went to.

thanks

It would be to easier trailer but to drive or put on a trailer I think not. May be if the launch is bad.

I down sized and am very happy but I did it for a very specific reason. I wanted a beater ski boat ski wake. If your family is young as your kids get older your boating crew may grow. We often had two or three extra kids when my son was young.

We went from a VLX to a VTX, which is not a huge drop down in size. We don't usually have a huge crew out with us, so the space has not been very different, especially as the cabin is not much different between the two. The main reason I made the change was to get a better slalom wake, but still have the vdrive cabin layout and a good wakeboarding wake.

Whether or not to make a change really depends on how you use your boat.

Went from an LSV to VLX. Never regret it, especially when riding behind it. I didn't need the space for the regular crew and don't like boats that are too big where you have to yell to people across the "danc floor". I also don't want a crew that is 10 people big....I never get to ride.

A lot of people will say the opposite I am sure. There is a love fest here for bigger boats. Personally I think the VLX now ('09+) is the perfect size.

We bounce around between several LSVs, several Vrides, a VLX & a couple of XTIs. The larger boats definitely require more truck to pull them. But I don't think they handle much different, on or off the water. It just depends on how much crew you have.

:plus1:

Depends on how many peeps you take with you on a regular basis. How many do you regularly have?

I thin it will depend on how you use your boat. On days with a big crew you will wish you had more room. When it comes to cleaning trailing launching and retrieving you may enjoy a smaller boat.

I have me my wife and my kids most of the time, kids are 16, 11, 8. sometime my son has one friend.. on occasion we take out another family of 4.

my boat just drove off , i am sad.

I tried to go from LSV to VLX. After sitting in a VLX in the showroom for a while, I definitely decided that I would miss the extra room. The weight difference is only like 300-400 lbs if I remember right.

after having a competition ski boat, and having been in large v-drive wakeboats, it's hard for me to ever think about buying the same size again. if i had the means, i'd buy a 247. and even though my usual wakeboard crew is only 5 AT MOST, i'd still want something that big. it's always nice to be able to stretch all the way out. :lazy:

there is NEVER too much room and stowage on a boat.

My kids are now 25, 22 and 19 - so a similar spread to what you have. Before long your crew will grow to add a friend, boyfriend / girlfriend for everyone. Then you have 8 in the boat. With my LSV (21), we are very comfortable with 8 of us out for the day with skis, wakeboards, coolers, food, towels, etc... I would not want anything smaller.

In my opinion boats have gone the way of the american waistline. We had a 19ft for years, got the Sunsetter at it was roomy as could be, now it's just crazy how big

"ski boats" have gotten. I'd love an LSV but not sure I could justify the tow rig I'd need. Mind you I live at 7500ft and tow regularly over 10k. I'm still waiting for the snow to stop and most of the resvoirs are empty waiting for runoff.

Go as big as you can afford, tow, and store. Even with a small crew you can use ballast to make up the difference. We usually don't have too many people in our boat, but when we do, the bigger boat is great.

In my dream world I would own a 247 and the smallest closed bow ski boat on the market. The best of both worlds

I went from a 22'6" Supra (100" beam) to a 21'6" VLX (100" beam), lost a full foot of length, so far have no regrets. I was considering the LSV, but if you look at the LSV how many more can you actually seat than a VLX? Maybe 1-2 adults? The VLX is very well laid out, it is rated for 14 people, but it will comfortably seat 10. After owning a boat for a few years, I found anything more than 10 people gets a little crazy, and nobody gets to ride that much. I also like the body style of the VLX better than the LSV, the cut-outs look awesome, the LSV seems a little flat to me.... and of course, this is just my opinion.

I lost the Z-5 cargo rack which I loved on my Supra, but having the extra board racks (4) is great, I can stow all the surfboards, wakeskate and wakeboards out of the boat.... this was a great upgrade I would recommend to anyone. The kneeboards will fit in the ski lockers of the VLX, this was something I tested beforeI purchased.

You will get more under seat storage with the LSV, no doubt about that. I am not sure how much larger the ski lockers are on the LSV than the VLX, after I made my mind up about the VLX never crawled through the LSV. I can fit all our gear (vests, ropes, etc...) and two kneeboards in the VLX ski lockers with room to spare.

The VLX is a little easier to drive for my wife as well, less boat to manuever around.

I guess it depends on what you use your boat for, and how many people you typically take out? either way you go, they are both great boats.

I tow my 23 lsv with a tahoe z71 so you don't need a big ole rig to tow. i'm thinking about downsizing too, don't think i'll regret it though i had a response before the lsv, something in the middle would be perfect I think

The vlx is rated for 10 or 11. Lsv is 14, I don't even like 10 people in the lsv.

Not according to the stamp inside the boat, it says 14. This is obviously packed in, we had 10 the other day and it was fine with three in the bow. My Supra was the same way, stamped for 15 people, 10 was about all I would take out.

LOL no doubt my bad thanks for schooling me. Looked at the specs again and they bumped up the capacity from 11 to 14. What's even carrier is that the lsv is only rated for 15 and there is a lot more room in an lsv.

Not schooling anyone, they probably did it to sell a few more boats.... not realistic, maybe they did it when they went to a 100" beam width?

Don't know for sure but I didn't remember seeing that when we did the demo.and write up of the new hull in 09' when it came out. My plate says 14 in my lsv LOL. I don't even remember how they rate these things anymore.
