upgrading stock ballast pumps

hi guys,

just trying to figure out a new system for a 2011 vlx, we will be using the "bakes add a bag system"

with this system it says to put a directional valve onto the factory vented loop. so this way the stock fill pump fills the tank first, then we switch it to the bag.

these arent the fastest pumps in the world, the center tank takes a good 5-7 mins to fill.

is it possible to upgrade the pumps without having to drill new holes in the bottom of the boat, and preferably using the original housings so you can just take the cartridge out.??????

thanks guys

If you currently have the 800gph pirranah's you could do a straight swap out for Tsunami pumps that run at 1200 gph. Pretty inexpensive upgrade.IMO

The 1200's don't have 3/4" inlet and outlets though. Anyone come up with the correct reduced for this, is love to swap mine out to 1200's?

One option is to use the Tournament Rule 1100's, they will directly screw into the 3/4" inlet, you would have to reduce the 1" outlet on the Rule to 3/4" to adapt to the stock MLS fill line. You might also need to check for clearance issues, I know the Rule 1100's are considerably larger than the Phiranha 800's. For $49 the RULE is a great value.

The Fly High W747 may work. It reduces the 1-1/8" input to 3/4". I was thinking of doing this very same upgrade, but had the following concerns: (1) Is the W747 NPT and you would need NPS? (2) Is it strong enough for a below-the-waterline connection? (3) Will the upgrade really make a difference since the tubing to the hard tanks is still 3/4" (resistance)?

Here is the info on WakeMakers site:

"This fitting is a reducer from 1 1/8" female (the proprietary thread on the Attwood T1200 pump) to 3/4" male, and can be used to connect the pump direct to the port on Fly High Pro X Series ballast bags, or to any other female 3/4" connection."

I believe it has Tsunami threads for a direct hookup. If you use this fitting it is after the ball valve or hull safety valve, so as long as you use pipe dope or tephlon tape you should be okay.

I don't think that fitting is threaded on the inside is it?

It is female 1-1/8" to male 3/4". Is the inlet on the stock Pirhana male 3/4"? If so, this would work. Just cut the inlet on the Tsunami to a shorter length, screw the W747 onto the Tsunami and replace the Pirhana.
