Time to Change Towers

Well after long hard debate I am going to keep my 05 VLX one more year. I was so close to pulling the trigger on a 11 or mid summer 12 but just can't stand the thoughts of a payment. My problem is my boat still has the CFT Blade tower. I really haven't had any issues like most. My boat has over 300 hours and has been used but not abused. I have only 2 tiny gelcoat cracks from the flex but thats it. I should have upgraded when i got the offer but i really love the looks and at the time had no issues from my tower. I really want to upgrade and i think it will increase the resale next spring. Does anyone know if you can purchase a G3 and if so the cost. I can do the install so thats not a issue. I have also looked at the new samson tower that looks almost like a G3 but i can't make up my mind. Does anyone have any opinions on this issue if so cool.

Malibu isn't selling the g3 yet, but maybe your local dealer could talk them into it. I think the retail cost is about $7k on it.

$7000 is so crazy. that well on my way to a new boat. i don't think so.

i may just fab up some braces that would look cool and ride with it.

I've seen that tower in person on a boat and at his shop. Typical samson overbuilt and probably bulletproof. They make only top notch stuff. Looks like that tower could be a direct boltup replacement for the Illusion if the bases are the same length.

I didn't pay that mine was warrantied. I was told they retail for around that price.

I know it was, cool deal by the way, what actually happened to your IX to cause the crack, or don't you know? My dealer has always told me what the total would be, so I figured you knew for sure rather than "I think"

Don't know for sure only reason I saw the crack was because some wax got stuck in the crack when I waxed the tower. Not very noticeable. Just glad malibu stepped up and took care of it.

 for malibu on that

I haven't had nearly the same experience with Samson's stuff. We had a foil rack fail a couple yrs ago, cruising down the lake, rack spun under the skis weight, rear wing put nice axe mark in the side of the boat. Good thing no one's arm or something wasn't there.

Only other experience was with one of their older towers with the integrated racks. We couldn't do Around the Boats behind that boat because they would catch the rope.

They have stepped up making foils & seats lately though. I haven't riden one yet.

Go Titan. The older models aren't as stylish, but your less likely to have problems with it down the road. I heard Star One was workin on making the series III of their own.

How is a rack spinning failing? did the clamp.spin on the tube of the tower? was it tight?

Yea, the spinner rack has a part like a gear where you can adjust the angle of the rack for each tower. The gear itself stripped. Total metal fatigue. I didn't check to make sure it was tight, other than the ski was strapped into the rack tight.

I guess they changed the design since them..... good on them for responding to the problem.

I sure wouldn't change boats for the tower. To easy to replace a tower and a lot cheaper. You can still get the illusion; it's still expensive but not nearly a G3 price. That samson looks good. Or go with the classic, solid Titans/Star One. Can't go wrong there.

Unfortunately, Brett told me just last week that they received word that they will NOT be making a TIII replacement at StarOne. Bummer news, and hopefully that changes down the road.

Yea, that is a bummer. Makes me wonder why. Titan (Malibu) must have plans for that tower somewhere.

It isnt a total NO yet but its leaning that way.

So who do we need to talk to to straighten this out? :yahoo:

No doubt the series I & II are solid (tested mine just last night..... 61 degree water & no wetsuit!). Their just not quite as sexy.

Same thought I had 06. Which makes me wonder if they have future plans for it.

Maybe malibu owns the rights to the Titan 3 and they don't want it produced if they aren't using it?

Malibu does indeed own the rights to the Titan III and I wouldn't be surprised if they have a newer version in the works. Time will tell, I suppose. In the meantime, I'm just lucky to have found a TIII for my boat at all.

Hey, that's at least better news than what Brett said! No doubt you guys are making great towers - keep it up!!!
