After market Depth Gauge

New here with my first (new to me) boat! Does anyone have good advise on an after market depth gauge that works best for a 2003 23LSV ie. through hull or transom mount and placement? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I put one in my 03 XTi. I used the Humminbird one with the thru hull transducer. My boat is a direct drive, so placement will be slightly different. But the basic idea is to get the transducer as close the the centerline of the hull, in an area that won't have turbulent water i.e. from tracking fins, water intake, speedometer wheel, etc. I mounted my puck right behind my transmission. I used some sand paper to smooth the area of the hull where I planned on mounting it. Then, I used some silicone to adhere it to the hull. This way, if I wasn't getting a good, continuous reading, I was able to move it....not the case when using epoxy. Everything worked fine, but I still am using the silicone. I thought about cleaning it up and doing the epoxy thing, but why fix what isn't broke! If you do go the epoxy route, make sure you use slow cure (1 hour or more) The chemical reaction of the hardening epoxy produces heat which could fry the electronics inside the transducer.

What about finding a factory module and sensor?

On my 03, the depth gauge is already programmed into the speedo. You just need to pick up the module and sending unit.

That is a good idea, wish I would have thought of that. How do you know if it is programmed into the speedo? Does it show as 'depth' or something like that on the digital display, but just read blank? My display doesn't have that....just air temp, lake temp, hours, and time. Maybe that means my boat didn't have that option programmed?
